Cataract Multifocal and Bifocal Intraocular Lenses (IOL)

Multifocal and Bifocal Intraocular Lenses (IOL) are synthetic lenses that provide varied distances of vision. A bifocal IOL is a type of multifocal IOL that allows for both near and far distance vision. Multifocal IOLs can be refractive or diffractive. Refractive multifocal IOLs establish supreme intermediate and distance vision, while diffractive multifocal IOLs provide excellent reading vision and good distant vision. There are also refractive multifocal intraocular lenses that boast near, far and intermediate vision. As with any eye surgery/ lens implantation there are risks involved including detachment of the retina, infection and inflammation of the eye. Whichever products chosen, be sure the IOLs are FDA approved.
