Boris E. Malyugin, MD, PhD, Selected to Present Prestigious Binkhorst Lecture
FAIRFAX, Va. – February 9, 2017 – Internationally renowned expert, Boris E. Malyugin, MD, PhD, will be awarded the Binkhorst Medal, and he will present the esteemed Binkhorst Lecture during the ASCRS Opening General Session of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA) Annual Symposium and Congress in Los Angeles, May 6, 2017. Dr. Malyugin’s lecture will be titled “Cataract Surgery in Small Pupils: Building the Bridge Over Troubled Waters.”
Since 1975, the Binkhorst Medal has been awarded to the world’s most prominent ophthalmologists whose careers have made significant contributions to the science and practice of ophthalmology. Dr. Malyugin is an internationally recognized expert in the field of modern anterior segment surgery, establishing himself at the forefront of advanced cataract and anterior segment surgery by pioneering numerous techniques and technologies, including the Malyugin Ring for pupil expansion and the Malyugin modified CTR for scleral fixation.

Dr. Malyugin is a Professor of Ophthalmology, Deputy Director General (R&D, Edu.) at the S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery State Institution (Moscow, Russia). He is the President of the Russian Society of Ophthalmologists and European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons Board member, as well as the member of International Intraocular Implant Club and Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis.
He is a chief medical editor of Ophthalmosurgery Journal (Russia) and Russian Eurotimes. He is also an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today, Eurotimes, Ocular Surgery News, EyeWorld magazine, Ophthalmologist and others.
Registration is open for the ASCRS-ASOA Annual Symposium and Congress, which will be held in Los Angeles May 5-9. This is the only event in the United States dedicated to the needs of the anterior segment specialist.
