Stereoscopic Vision and Depth Perception Testing

Stereoscopic vision and depth perception testing is important in identifying diseases such as Amblyopia, Strabismus, Suppression and Stereopsis. Stereovision is how each eye may see an object from different angles, but combines these angles to give us a 3D image. There are many stereoscopic/depth perception tests on the market; some are geared more for children while others to adults. Many of these tests ask the patient to identify the “raised” letter, shape or animal to measure depth perception and identify if the patients eyes are working together to identify the intended image. These tests offer intriguing subjects to interest various patients. An Ophthalmology practice should have a variety of these tests on hand if serving patients of varying ages.

Random Dot E

Random Dot E

Precision Vision®

  • Description: Stereo vision is a term used to identify how each eye sees an object at a slightly different angle, yet both eyes work together to give us a three dimensional effect. Stereo vision can be tested using different types of charts, including this Random Dot E test. This test involves the patient wearing stereo glasses (to prevent guessing) and identifying the stereo or "raised" letter E. The patient is also asked to identify the non-stereo dot or target. This helps to identify problems such as Amblyopia and Strabismus in child patients.
    • Designed specifically for use with small children
    • Includes: Raised E target, non-stereo target, demonstrator and stereo glasses
    • This test is produced by: Stereo Optical Company, Inc.
    • Randot is a registered trademark of Stereo Optical Company, Inc.
    • Patient is asked to distinguish between raised E and non-stereo target
    • Great for the detection of Amblyopia and Strabismus

Randot Stereo Test

Randot Stereo Test

Precision Vision®

  • Description: This Randot Stereo Test is aimed for adult stereo testing, but also includes an animal portion for pediatric testing. Adult patients are asked to identify six geometric shapes during testing. This test helps to test the patient depth perception along with normal stereo vision. Adult testing involves 400 to 20 seconds of arc, and pediatric testing involves 400 to 100 seconds of arc.
    • Unique vectorgraph test to identify forms from random dot backgrounds
    • Test Includes: Randot test with two levels of stereopsis (500 and 250 seconds of arc), graded circle test (400 to 20 seconds of arc), animal testing for young children (400 to 100 seconds of arc), and one set of stereo glasses
    • This test is produced by: Stereo Optical Company, Inc. Randot is a registered trademark of Stereo Optical Company, Inc.

Stereo Butterfly Test

Stereo Butterfly Test

Precision Vision®

  • Description: This test is designed for the testing and evaluation of both gross stereopsis and depth perception. The test involves the use of a butterfly picture during testing. Each set of wings an the abdomen feature different seconds of arc (upper wings 2000 seconds of arc, lower wings 1150 seconds of arc, and abdomen 700 seconds of arc). This helps to test several different levels of stereopsis and presents a more in depth stereo test.

This test is produced by: Stereo Optical Company, Inc.
Randot is a registered trademark of Stereo Optical Company, Inc.

    • Offers no monocular clues to discourages guessing
    • Allows effective screening of gross stereopsis
    • Used for the evaluation of fine depth perception
    • Set includes: random butterfly test for gross stereopsis (2500 to 1200 seconds of arc), graded circle test (800 to 400 seconds of arc), animal testing for young children and stereo glasses

Stereo Fly Test

Stereo Fly Test

Precision Vision®

  • Description: This Stereo Fly test is designed for the evaluation of both gross stereopsis and fine depth perception. The Stereo Fly test is used as a standard in stereo testing. The large image of the fly is useful for testing children, as they respond to large objects or pictures well. Test also features targets and animals for further stereo testing. Test only works with the use of the stereo glasses. This helps prevent guessing and creates a more reliable stereo vision test.

This test is produced by: Stereo Optical Company, Inc. Randot is a registered trademark of Stereo Optical Company, Inc.

    • Recognized as the Standard for stereo depth perception testing
    • Test allows easy evaluation of both gross and fine stereo vision
    • Folder includes: House fly test for gross stereopsis, graded circle test (800 to 40 seconds of arc), animal testing for young children (400 to 100 seconds of arc) and stereo glasses
    • Fly features 3500 to 40 seconds of arc
