With the Hertel, the unit is held in both hands and held firmly against the left-hand orbital rim in line with the center of the cornea. Supports are placed against the two temporal orbital walls, so the orbital rim contacts the deepest point of the supports.
The Naugle is a bit easier to handle- with a headrest that facilitates patient comfort, and plastic mounts that are placed firmly against the superior and inferior orbital rim.
