Indian Hospital Combats Blindness

Through a mixture of innovative business practices, new technologies and altruism, Aravind Eye Care Hospital created a new model for eliminating “needless blindness” in India, S. Aravind, an ophthalmologist working as an administrator at the hospital, said during a presentation in Kreindler Auditorium this Wednesday. The hospital, which has several locations in the Indian Tamil Nadu state, offers both free and fee-based care.

Study Advises Caution For IOL Implantation In Children 6 Months And Younger

A study examining primary IOL correction of monocular aphakia in infancy found that at 1 year, 63% of children in an IOL implantation-only group needed one or more additional intraocular operations, as opposed to 12% of children in a contact lens-only group.
