 VSP Names Top 10 Most and Least Eye-Healthy U.S. Cities

Reno, Nev. was recently named the most eye-healthy city in the United States by VSP® Vision Care, while Cleveland, OH was named the nation's least eye-healthy city.

The results are part of VSP's Eye Health Index, which millions of VSP claims from more than 100 U.S. metropolitan areas to identify which cities are the most focused on maintaining their eye health by getting annual eye exams.

The top 10 eye-healthy cities in 2016 are:

  1. Reno, Nev.
  2. Boise, ID
  3. Oklahoma City, Okla.
  4. Des Moines, IA
  5. Raleigh, N.C.
  6. Redding, Calif.
  7. Colorado Springs, Colo.
  8. Fayetteville, Ark.
  9. Denver, Colo.
  10. Tulsa, Okla.

The 10 least eye-healthy cities in 2016 are:

  1. Cleveland, OH
  2. Bakersfield, Calif.
  3. Merced, Calif.
  4. Akron, OH
  5. Albuquerque, N.M.
  6. Detroit, Mich.
  7. Stockton, Calif.
  8. Santa Rosa, Calif.
  9. Bridgeport, Conn.
  10. Salinas, Calif.

The 2016 Eye Health Index also found in general, women are more diligent about their eye health than men with 58 percent of eye exams received by women compared to 42 percent by men in the cities surveyed.
