Femtosecond laser is an exciting new technology originally FDA approved for use in refractive surgery. The FDA has now expanded the indications to include ‘cuts’ in the cornea, including vertical and lamellar cuts. The possibilities for use now include but are not limited to femtosecond keratoplasty, astigmatic keratoplasty, and Intacs for keratoconus.

Younger Cataract Patients Report Better Vision Than Older Patients At 10 Years Postop

Cataract patients younger than 65 years at the time of surgery showed more stable self-reported and clinically evaluated visual function than an older comparator group at 10 years out, according to a study.

American Board of Ophthalmology Appoints Three New Directors

Keith H. Baratz, MD, is Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in Rochester, MN and serves on the editorial board of Archives of Ophthalmology. He is also the former Residency Director and former Director of Research in Mayo’s Department of Ophthalmology.
