 Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology to Host Congress on Artificial Vision

The Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology will present The Eye and The Chip — the 10th Congress on Artificial Vision — from September 24-26, 2017, which will bring together global experts to collaborate and discuss their advances and challenges in the pursuit of artificial vision.

Nearly 30 internationally-renowned scientists will reportedly be on-hand for the congress, all of which are studying tools to restore vision with an electronic device in the eye or brain. Planned panelists who will be sharing their research and progress include: 

  • Drs. Eberhard Zenner and Alfred Stett from the University of Tubingen in Germany who will discuss retinal implants in human studies;
  • Dr. Yannick LeMer of France's Foundation Ophthalmologique who will talk about wireless chip development in human studies;
  • Dr. Daniel Palanker of Stanford University who will present research on sub-retinal device in humans;
  • And Dr. Eduardo Fernandez from the Bioengineering Institute at the University Miguel Hernandez in Spain who will discuss a device for the visual cortex in the brain.
