Veterinary Ophthalmologists Offering Free Eye Exams for Service Animals in May

The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists® (ACVO®) and Stokes Pharmacy will once again be offering free eye exams for qualified service animals in 2017, with the aim of helping more than 7,500 animals.

The 10th Annual ACVO/StokesRx National Service Animal Eye Exam Event will reportedly take place in participating veterinary clinics across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico from May 1-31, 2017, with the goal of providing as many free screening exams as possible. Service animals that may qualify include guide, disability assistance, detection, military, search and rescue, and also certified-current, registered therapy animals.

Since the annual event was created in 2008, veterinary ophthalmologists have been able to perform more than 52,000 free eye exam screenings, including 7,400 just in 2016.

To participate in this year's program, owners/agents for the service animals must register their animal via an online registration form beginning April 1st at ACVOeyeexam.org. Registration ends April 30th. Once registered, the owner/agent will receive a registration number and will be allowed access to a list of participating veterinary ophthalmologists, who they can contact to schedule an appointment.
