Tulane Researchers Using Virtual Reality System to Develop Glaucoma Test

Researchers at Tulane University are reportedly using a virtual reality (VR) system normally used for gaming to develop a new tool to test for glaucoma.

For their project, the research team is reportedly the Oculus Rift -- a virtual reality headset made by Oculus VR. Researchers believe the VR headset could be a more portable and affordable option for glaucoma testing for developing countries, providing a testing option for patients who live in areas without access to care.

Right now, the team is reportedly working on making the system more user friendly and overcoming specific challenges, such as calibrating light intensity and integrating eye-tracking capability. In the future, the research team plans to use the VR headset to detect other kinds of diseases as well.
