USC Roski Eye Institute Grows Ophthalmology Residency Program

USC Roski Eye Institute Grows Ophthalmology Residency Program

The University of Southern California (USC) Roski Eye Institute has grown its ophthalmology residency program to total 21 residents per training cycle, making it reportedly one of the largest residency programs in the country.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) recently approved the addition of another permanent resident at the institute, which is reportedly the first resident to be added to the ophthalmology program since 1985. According to the institute, only a handful of additional residency spots are granted each year across all medical specialties and is based upon a number of criteria.

Part of the approval process also reportedly included USC Roski Eye Institute's ongoing partnership with the L.A. County+USC Medical Center (LAC+USC), through which residents receive hands-on training experience.
