Canon U.S.A. Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Non-Mydriatic Camera

This week, Canon U.S.A. is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the launch of its CR-45NM — reportedly the world’s first non-mydriatic 45-degree retinal camera.

According to Canon, the CR-45NM was the first retinal camera in the world to allow eye care professionals to screen patients’ eyes without dilation, helping to alleviate discomfort or pain that the patient might otherwise experience during the process. First available in 1976 for sale overseas, the device was first made available to customers in the U.S. in 1977.
