Canadian Ophthalmologist Designs Online Medical Education Resource

Dr. Sanjay Sharma, a retina specialist and professor of ophthalmology and epidemiology at Queen’s University, recently launched medskl.com — an open-access, online medical education resource featuring content from some of the leading universities in the U.S. and Canada.

Launched as a way to make medical education more accessible and effective, the site uses video lectures, white-board animations and summary notes to help students and doctors diagnose and treat a broad range of illnesses. So far, Sharma has recruited over 170 professors to author content from such schools as the University of Toronto, Queen’s, McGill, Dalhousie and UBC in Canada, and Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Johns Hopkins and Mayo Clinic in the U.S.

To date, 100 modules have been created for medskl.com, with another 100 modules expected to be added in the next few months. Additionally, most Canadian medical schools will reportedly start using medskl.com content in their medical curriculum this fall, with Yale, Johns Hopkins and Duke expected to do the same this year.
