B+L Introduces New Small Gauge Vitrectomy Package for Stellaris, Highlights Recent Collaborations

In a letter distributed to U.S. ophthalmologists today from Bausch + Lomb (B+L) U.S. Surgical General Manager and Senior Vice President Andrew Chang, B+L announced the launch of a small gauge vitrectomy package for the Stellaris® microsurgical system and discussed more details regarding their recently announced collaborations with IBM and Hoya Surgical Optics.

The new Stellaris small gauge vitrectomy package combines needed components for 23 and 25-gauge anterior vitrectomy, which allows surgeons to perform anterior vitrectomy at their own preferred incision size either anteriorly through a corneal incision or using a pars plana approach with the respective ESA cannula.

B+L's letter also referenced their recently announced collaboration with IBM for a first-of-its-kind Apple iPhone and iPad app for cataract surgeons, as well as their exclusive agreement with Hoya Surgical Optics to distribute and commercialize HOYA’s intraocular lenses (IOLs) and injectors in the U.S.
