Ellex to Launch Multi-Color Scanning Photocoagulator at ASCRS

Ellex Medical

Ellex Medical (Adelaide, Australia) will launch its multi-color scanning photocoagulator, Integre Pro Scan™, at the 2015 meeting of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery in San Diego, California, 17-21 April.

Integre Pro Scan™ provides a new benchmark in retinal laser technology, combining multi-color photocoagulation and pattern scanning in an ergonomic, all-in-one laser/slit lamp design. The system provides a number of wavelength configurations, including two dual-wavelength configurations.

This includes a high-power yellow and red configuration that delivers the full treatment spectrum of a traditional three-color multi-color photocoagulator. It also includes a multitude of patterns and pattern variations which can be fully customized based on size, position and orientation, thus providing physicians with a pattern for every pathology.

Featuring the Company’s proprietary ZenTec™ laser cavity, Integre Pro Scan™ achieves optimal homogenous burns for more predictable treatment outcomes. It also incorporates achromatic doublet lens technology which provides a clear view of the fundus in order to better observe the laser-tissue effect and precisely titrate power. The titration of power is arguably the most important aspect of pattern scanning photocoagulation: although lower power produces smaller scars, it also causes less regression of neovascularization, while too much power can lead to confluent spots and result in a disruptive effect.

The industry’s fastest pattern scanning photocoagulator, Integre Pro Scan™ is able to deliver a pattern of up to 25 laser shots in just 0.5 seconds. The decreased duration of exposure and increased energy result in better localization of the laser to the external retina and reduces thermal diffusion – thereby reducing the amount of epithelial scarring, scotoma, and inflammation.

The Integre Pro Scan™ is simple to control with an ergonomic design and user-friendly GUI, while it’s unique “Track Pad” allows the physician to adjust pattern size, position and orientation with ease. Associate Professor Dimitri Yellachich, Vitreoretinal Surgeon HOD, Fremantle Eye Clinic, Australia, who was involved in the development of the Integre Pro Scan™ has praised its simple, stream-lined approach.

“The first thing you notice when looking at Integre Pro Scan is its Zen-like simplicity, with no additional wired controllers or bulky scanning modules. It is outstandingly compact and ergonomic,” said Professor Yellachich.

“For me, the stand-out feature is the ability to control patterns and power without having to take my hand off the joystick. This takes multi-spot laser technology to a whole new level.”

Professor Yellachich will be taking part in two “Meet the Expert” sessions being held at the Ellex Exhibit (#815) at the ASCRS on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm.
